Waynesboro– The rain held off for Caisson runners on Saturday and the competition was fierce. So much so, one Caisson beat another by .39 of a second. In that photo finish, Ethan Simpson beat Jayden Parker. His 23:46 was a personal record (26:17 old PR). Just ahead of that duo was freshman Ben Gilroy, who shaved more than 3 minutes from his PR by hitting the tape at 23:28.
Freshman Dietrich Larson led all cadets in the 5K distance and PR’d with a time of 19:11 (20:50 old PR). He was second in his 12-15 age group. New Cadet Jayden Jefferson (26:34) edged out fellow cadet Jeremiah Dickenson (26:47). Freshman Ivan Gray’s effort in practice paid off as he shaved 3 minutes off his Augusta Invitational last place finish to PR at 29:37.
Three cadets rose to the challenge of the 10K division and earned medals. Aiden Bowman finished second in the 16-19 age group with a time of 43:29. In the 12-15 age group Eli Lianez finished first, with a time of 45:12, followed by Nathan Zapata in second for that age group with a time of 46:50.
The team competes on Tuesday at Coyner Springs Park at the Caisson Challenge. Three other VIC schools will be in attendance. Start time is 1615. Come on out and cheer the Caissons on!
